Simple Masking Magic with Guest Artist Carly Tee Minner
Hero Arts
We’re thrilled to welcome a special guest to the blog today—Carly Tee Minner! She’s sharing an oh-so-sweet card creation featuring the brand-new What’s Brewing collection. Take it away, Carly!
Hi Crafty Friends! I'm Carly Tee and I'm delighted to be popping by the Hero Arts blog today to share one of my favorite stamping techniques...masking!
Masking can be so simple & easy but it's always magic! For this card I made a basic cardstock mask for the Coffee or Tea cup so I could customize it with flowers from the Here for You Stamp Set .

I started by stamping the cup & sentiments on white cardstock. Then I stamped the cup on a scrap of blue cardstock and used scissors to cut out the middle of the cup, making a mask. I like to use cardstock for masks because they can stand up to a lot of ink without bleeding through to my projects but many mediums would work. Sometimes it's nice to have a masking medium that has low-tack adhesive like Post-It Notes or masking paper but I also find the magnet in my stamp positioner is sufficient.

Next I placed the blue cardstock mask over my stamped panel so I could stamp the flowers and have just the bloom on the cup.
After my mug was decorated with flowers, I colored everything with Copic markers. Here are the colors I used:
- mug BG10 & BG11
- flowers R10, R21, R22 & T4
- coffee E33 & E53
The final touch was a few faux paint splatters, made by just dotting some black pens around.

A huge thanks to Carly for sharing this stunning card! How would you decorate the mug? We’d love to hear what other stamps you’d use—seasonal designs for the holidays would be absolutely adorable!

beautiful Carly!
